Course Description

This online course will be delivered through a user-friendly platform containing pre-recorded lectures and readings. The enrollee will listen to the lectures, read the assignments, and complete homework each week. Homework will be due each week and grow in complexity as the course moves on. Each enrollee will receive feedback on his or her assignments. During some weeks the homework will involve quizzes, while other weeks will involve the creation of documents in Excel and Word. Homework will be uploaded to the learning platform directly to the instructors and not provided or discussed in a group session. Instructors providing feedback may request the enrollee to revise homework assignments before moving on to the next assignment. The Compliance Certification Board (CCB)® has approved this event for up to 14.4 live CCB CEUs. The course fee is $999 if paid by credit card.

Part 1

Part 1 of the course will involve an introduction to the concepts of clinical research billing coverage analysis and basic Medicare program coverage principles.

Part 2

Part 2 will teach enrollees to build a “grid” sufficient to support a coverage analysis. Enrollees must complete two successful “grid builds” (one device study and one cancer study)

Part 3

Part 3 will teach application of Medicare rules for coverage analysis and students will apply coverage principles to the two grids the students’ completed during Part 2.

Course Requirements

Internet

A strong internet connection

Zoom capability

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Excel

Enrollees must successfully complete analysis of each of the two grids in order to finish the course. Each week will include a 1 hour Zoom discussion with classmates and at least one of the instructors, often up to four instructors.

The course will assume the students are working from the perspective of clinical research conducted in a hospital setting. While many of the principles discussed in the course will apply to physician offices and other settings, the most complex setting for clinical research billing is a hospital. Accordingly, the course will examine the hospital setting, and when appropriate also discuss professional fee billing.
